Stress affects everyone. The subject of stress has become a favorite subject of everyday conversation. It is not unusual to hear ourselves talk with friends, coworkers, and family members about the difficulty we have with managing the stress of everyday living. We talk about being burned out, overwhelmed and "losing it." We also hear and talk about our efforts to control the events that cause stress, and most of us understand the results of not controlling our reactions to stress.
It was the end of the summer session and I was drowning in piles of work. I was on overload my health started to deteriorate. So I had to do something about it.
I started reading a couple of articles about stress. From the American Psychology Association, I learned that stress can affect us emotional, mentally, and physically, and if not dealt with can have negative consequences.
Desperate, I needed a solution. I looked for ways to reduce stress. Several things that I found help were from an article by Elizabeth Scott, M.S. She suggested, 25 possible things that one can do to relieve stress. The ones I found beneficial was cutting down my many commitments, dancing to music, and taking a mini vacation with my friend Amy. Looks like she enjoyed it more!
As a result, my head is a lot clearer and it feels like a weights been lifted off my shoulders. Who knew that skipping work and a trip the beach was all I really needed. I’m more focused and I can breathe without having a migraine. That a blessing all by itself. The biggest lesson learned is that is that you should always make time for yourself.
